Cervelo R3 SL Review
Roadcycling.com reviews the Cervelo R3 SL road bike.
the top of a climb; do either with no complaints. Handling was like a Ferrari and the ride was like a Caddy. The Cervelo R3 SL is fun and smooth. It seems it has heart and was built by engineers with cycling knowledge and common sense. Their goal wasn’t just another pretty bike.
The traditional double diamond frame is present with Cervelo’s Squoval tubing (more square than oval). Other unique sizes are the small seat stays, oversize bottom bracket and oversize chain stays. The Squoval downtube is more like an in your face muscle car rather than a sleek sports car. The Easton carbon fork, FSA light carbon cranks, and Shimano Dura Ace group finalized the package of the Cervelo. The HED wheels matched the high standards of the other components. On a side note, Cervelo’s bar tape was extremely comfortable.
Whether it was cornering, climbing, or sprinting, the R3 SL surpassed my old standards of “excellence”. It raised the bar. Race it on the edge and then do a Sunday group ride with your buddies. The comfort of this bike will allow you to eat up miles like my grand kids going thru chocolate cake! Comments about the Cervelo R3 SL from Roadcycling.com’s test team include: “I seem to ride faster on this bike”, “Is it the bike or am I just having a good day?”, “The Cervelo is smooth” and “This bike is really light.”
For those with steel and aluminum frames who think there’s nothing new under the sun, please step out of the shadows and try the Cervelo R3 SL. It delivers on all its promises and is the best bike I’ve ridden. I told Cervelo I couldn’t return it because my dog ate it. Like my teacher’s in school, they didn’t believe me either. Roadcycling.com unwillingly sent it back.
